Dr. Glenna Tolbert, MD, QME, FAAPMR
Dr. Glenna Tolbert is a dual board-certified physician in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation and Spinal Cord Injury Medicine—distinctions held by only a select few specialists nationwide. A highly respected clinician, teacher, and leader since 1993, she has dedicated her career to restoring function, relieving pain, and helping individuals reclaim purpose, dignity, and quality of life following injury, illness, and neurologic disease.
Dr. Tolbert is nationally recognized for her excellence in conventional, evidence-based rehabilitation and her forward-thinking approach to regenerative medicine. Through expanding international collaborations, she advances innovative, science-driven treatments to promote healing, treat arthritis, and address chronic disease. Her peer-reviewed publications in rehabilitative medicine have been acknowledged nationally and internationally, further reflecting her dedication to advancing the field. As an independent physician entrepreneur and Founder of the Tolbert Center for Rehabilitation & Wellness—now in its 20th year with two thriving locations—she leads an interdisciplinary team blending traditional medical expertise with cutting-edge regenerative techniques and lifestyle-based care.
Dr. Tolbert’s leadership and contributions have been widely recognized. She was named one of the “36 Women Physician Leaders to Know” by the Kaiser Family Foundation (2017) and served as President of the Association of Black Women Physicians (2010–2012). In 2025, Dr. Tolbert received the prestigious Imhotep Award from the Minority Health Institute, honoring her career of excellence and her enduring contributions to reducing health care disparities. This national distinction recognizes physician-leaders whose work embodies service, innovation, and equity in medicine. The award affirms Dr. Tolbert’s decades-long commitment to ensuring that underserved communities have access not only to care—but to excellence in care.
A former Assistant Clinical Professor at the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine for more than two decades, Dr. Tolbert has mentored generations of physicians and earned three consecutive Tutor of the Year awards. She is also deeply committed to reducing health care disparities by expanding access to advanced treatments in underserved communities. Guided by faith, gratitude, and a lifelong devotion to service, Dr. Tolbert continues to inspire hope and healing for patients and communities alike.
