Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., Western Region would like to congratulate Tony Award winner Bro. Ben Vereen will be honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award for his enduring dedication to theater dance. Named after one of the most iconic figures in American theater history, the Chita Rivera Awards celebrate the achievements of dancers and choreographers in stage, film, and television.
Spanning four decades, Vereen’s Broadway credits include Hair, Jesus Christ Superstar, Pippin, Jelly’s Last Jam and Fosse. Brp. Vereen joined Wicked as the Wonderful Wizard of Oz in 2005. He also appeared in Sweet Charity on stage in Las Vegas and in the subsequent movie version.
“We are thrilled to honor Ben Vereen with this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award,” said New York City Dance Association founder Joe Lanteri. “Over his unprecedented career, Ben has starred on stage and screen, performed around the world, and has been a public speaker and humanitarian for causes close to his heart including black history and continuing education. Ben’s performance on Broadway in Pippin as the Leading Player won him a Tony Award and he’d go on to have a four-decade career in the theatre. We look forward to celebrating him on May 19.”
