Seattle Sigmas Award Five HS Scholarships
Continuing their commitment to support male scholars serious about achieving academic success. Epsilon Epsilon Sigma Chapter | Seattle, WA proudly announces their 2018 Western Washington High School Scholarship Recipients: Leland Adams, Myles Heyward, Rakshith Mullukatte, Journe' Pegues, and Zuberi Wilson.
Emile Pitre Scholarship Recipient, Leland Adams is a community leader, scholar, and athlete at Garfield High School with a 3.1 GPA. He is an active political and social activist on campus, where he holds a leadership position on the Congress of Racial Equality (CORE) and is a co-founder of the Race and Equity Team (RET) meant to create equitable learning environments for inner-city schools and it's students. His dream is to work as a consultant for a professional sports organization and combine his love for sports and business. Leland will be attending the University of Washington-Tacoma in the fall majoring in Business Administration with a minor in Accounting.
Russell Gideon Scholarship Recipient, Myles Heyward is an accomplished, well-rounded senior from Liberty High School. Myles has repeatedly proven himself to be a natural leader. From serving as President of his school's award-winning choir, owning his own clothing line, playing varsity football, and being the President of the Sigma Beta Club's Seattle Chapter, Myles has excelled in a plethora of areas. Myles currently has a 3.4 GPA and will be attending Howard University this fall as a Business major.
Melvin Minnis Scholarship Recipient, Rakshith Mullukatte is a business-oriented senior from Matt Grant Olympia High School. Rakshith has maintained a 3.7 GPA while preparing himself for his future as an entrepreneur. He is an Assistant Scoutmaster with the Boy Scouts of America and a champion public speaker at both the state and regional levels of the Future Business Leaders of America competition. Rakshith will be attending the University of Washington in the fall, majoring in Business.
David L. Davidson Scholarship Recipient, Journe' Pegues is the epitome of a servant leader. A senior at Federal Way High School with a 3.6 GPA, Journe' has volunteered with the Step by Step, Federal Way Football Club, and the Highline College's Special Olympics team as avenues to express his passion for community service. As a student-athlete and leader on campus, Journe' has used his influence to generate a stronger sense of school pride and community during his time at school. Journe' will be attending the University of Washington in the fall with the goal of opening his own physical therapy practice.
Samuel J. Smith Scholarship Recipient, Zuberi Wilson is a senior from Garfield High School with a 3.1 GPA and a passion for volunteering in his community. He is a Rainier Scholar, Treasurer of the Garfield Black Student Union, and a Y-Scholar. He has organized events about equality and racial acceptance, interviewed future Rainier Scholar applicants, as well as participating in the Jumpstart to Kindergarten program in local elementary schools. Zuberi's future goal is to attend law school to become a lawyer and eventually a judge. Zuberi will be attending the Seattle University in the fall.
